The Life Conscious is about taking a more intentional, deliberate path in many areas of life. It’s about being enriched, and enriching – ourselves, our families, our communities, our planet. One of my biggest passions is our environment and finding ways to make a positive impact rather than simply avoiding the negative.
We all know some of the downsides of plastic and that it can be really harmful to our planet. In Australia, our major supermarkets have removed plastic bags and we’re all getting better at remembering to take our reusable shopping bags for groceries.
I have been feeling an urgent need to know more. To understand where plastic actually comes from, how it’s made and why it has become so prolific in our world.
To learn about the potential impacts on our health, and whether governments are really protecting us.
To learn about the wider impacts of plastic on our animals and our earth.
I want to educate myself about alternatives, and, ultimately, protect my family and our planet wherever possible.
And so a couple of months ago I began researching those topics, and putting together some blog posts for The Life Conscious in case anyone else was interested. They’re still in the works.
I quickly found the process overwhelming. There’s a lot of information, but much of what I found wasn’t very reader-friendly – there’s lots of scientific and industry-based material.
Fortunately, I’ve been told that one of my strengths is taking complex material and making it more digestible for others! So that’s what I’m going to attempt in my series on Plastic.
So if you’re interested in learning more about where plastic actually comes from, how it’s potentially affecting your health, what it is doing to the environment (beyond plastic bags and straws in our oceans), and what you can do in your own life, I’d love to invite you to follow along with me.
I’ll do the research and the translation – you can read whatever is of interest to you, and drop me some feedback to let me know whether it’s helpful at all 🙂
You can also follow me on Instagram for the day-to-day stuff. I’m thinking of doing a couple of little challenges you may find of interest – you’ll find me at @thelifeconscious… I’m trying to be better at posting more regularly!
Historically I’ve done a lot of planning and thinking about this website, what it could be and how I can use it to help others. You’ll find a lot of topics here other than plastic. But I’ve been a bit too perfectionist about it – too much planning and perfecting, not enough publishing and just letting it (and me)
So you’ll probably see more posts pop up – and you’ll probably find mistakes and see things that could have been done better (
